Using Vibration Plates To Loose Weight

Apparently, vibration plate machines can help overweight or obese people trim their belly fat and achieve long-term weight loss.
A new study presented at the 17th European Congress on Obesity in Amsterdam (2009) concluded that obese women who follow a weight loss diet and regularly used the vibration plate machines were more successful at long-term weight loss and losing hard-to-trim belly fat than those who combined dieting with a more conventional exercise routine. Previously, there were no studies that supported vibration plates having any weight loss results.
Vibration plate machines are becoming popular alternatives to weight and cardio machines in gyms. So this study wanted to see if it was any good in helping you shed your weight.
THE STUDY
61 people, mostly women, were recruited into the study. They were all either overweight or obese. The subjects were then divided into 4 groups: diet alone, diet+vibration exercise, diet+regular sports/exercise, and the last was a control group that had neither diet nor exercise. They were under guidance and close monitoring for the 1st 6 months, then asked to continue (without monitoring) for the next 6months.
The participants were then reviewed at the end of 1 year, and the results?
The groups that were involved in exercise- be it regular exercise or vibration plate exercises- managed to maintain a 5%weight loss. The other 2 groups- purely diet and no intervention groups- did not achieve any weight loss.
Comparing the 2 groups that were involved in exercises: The group doing purely regular exercises lost 7% of body weight and managed to maintain that loss. The group doing vibration exercises lost 11% of their body weight, and by the end of the year, maintained a 10.5% weight loss.
The control group- no diet and no exercise- gained 1.5% of their body weight.
CONCLUSION
So it appears that doing vibration plate exercises can give you more weight loss in the short term, but don’t depend on vibration plate machines for weight loss just yet.
Vibration plate machines require proper supervision in the beginning and proper usage. Just standing and holding the handles will not do much to contribute to weight loss. The vibration plate machines also do not build cardiovascular strength, which is essential for overall health and stamina for everyday activities.
