Beauty Tips: Applying Eyeliner
I find applying eye makeup tricky, and eyeliner the most tricky part of all. Practice is important, but someone’s gotta show me how to achieve that pefect fluid line!
Here’s some tips I’ve come across in my search to help make applying eyliner easier (and better!). I tried many tricks suggested and I found these really helped!
- The aim of eyeliner is to let your lashes look thicker and fuller. So draw the line as close to and into the eyelashes as possible.
- Putting on powder eyeshadow in a natural brown tone with an angled brush to “draw” the path the eyeliner should take. Then use the eyeliner to go over it. And the powder base actually helps the eyeliner (especially liquid eyeliners) to stay on better! You can forgo the powder base when you are more confident of your strokes.
- Do not try to pull your eyelid taut when applying eyeliner. It causes the delicate eyelid skin to become loose and saggy prematurely!
- use your other hand (the hand not holding the eyeliner) to pull the eyebrow upwards (instead of pulling the eyelid outwards). This was the best tip I must have gained in the entire search, it made a lot of difference to my eyeliner technique and results!
- You can also use a Q-tip to gently press the eyelid at the top of the eye to lift the eyelid and see the lash line more clearly.
- Use a really fine tip brush if possible to apply gel and liquid eyeliner. Sharpen pencils too.
- Winged eyeliner- using a fine tipped brush will make a lot of difference to the wing you want to create! Draw your eyeliner as per normal, then put in the wing to it. Extend the end of the eyeliner upwards at a 45° angle, and from the highest point connect it to the midway of the eye. See what I mean on this YouTube video on applying winged eyeliner by RicolovesMAC.
The most important thing is still PRACTICE PRACTICE PRACTICE! I am drawing eyeliner EYERYDAY, even when I’m lazing at home the whole day. No matter how many tips you get, practice it as much as you can to get it right!
